Finding work-life balance

These days, keeping work-life balance can be one of the toughest things to do. Being in our twenties means we are constantly doing 15 things and at times it can seem a bit overwhelming.

Now, I do think work-life-balance can be achieved to some capacity, but balancing the two means giving and taking on either end. It will never be 100 percent equal. I do things with my friends and go out, but I’m constantly worrying about work or the next thing on my task list.

In the spirit of regaining my life and my sanity, I’ve put together a few ideas to relax, recharge, and work toward that balance.

Exercise - I try to get in a few hours of exercise a week. Not only does it make me feel great, it reduces stress and helps me amp up productivity for the remainder of the day. I usually play soccer a few times a week and try to lift weights at least one day a week. As hard as it is to schedule it in, I swear its’ possible!

Schedule “me time”I don’t know about you, but most days I schedule my time down to the hour or even the minute. That means scheduling “me time” is extremely important. This time is just for you, so do whatever makes you happy. Read, shop, listen to music, write only for fun, meditate, or dance around. This allows you to clear your head a bit and focus you.

Make time for friends - It’s vital to spend time with friends and your support system. Work can be stressful, as can the new experiences it brings along. Making time to see the people you love, even if it’s for a short time, will rejuvenate you and remind you what is really important.

Don’t Compare - Comparison is the thief of all joy and happiness. If you spend all of your time making comparisons to others, you’ll never be satisfied. Everyone is going through different situations and has a different story. Be grateful for what you have and what you are doing in your life. The most important thing is remind yourself who you are and love yourself fully.

By doing these few things, you will be able to create a balance in your life that keeps your sane and grounded.  With the amount of things we can take on in life, these things allow us to breathe a bit and enjoy the world around us when we are caught up in adult life.

What are your secrets to keeping a balanced life?

  1. I’ve always struggled to maintain a healthy work-life balance. I think the key is enjoying work. If you can enjoy your work, then the difference between “work” and “life” starts to disappear somewhat.
