52 week of less stuff; weeks 51 & 52! THE END!

Only a few weeks late… this is the last of my 52 weeks of less stuff posts. If you’re new at the beginning of 2013 I vowed to get rid of one item a week for the entire year of 2013.

Item 51: Curtains

20140121-134935.jpg We purchased curtains to hang. They sat on the floor and then I decided I didn’t like them. Unfortunately, at this point it was too late to send them back to IKEA. So now I will attempt to resell them on Kijiji. Anyone need some curtains?

Item 52: Gym Bag

I’ve had this bag for many years and I really never use it. So away it goes!

How did it go: It was actually a lot easier than I thought it would be. There are tons of items I don’t use and there are a lot more that I would actually like to get rid of now that Christmas is over. As much stuff as we got rid of I think there is a lot more to go, it feels like we accumulate stuff faster than we can get rid of it!

Needless to say I would recommend this challenge or anyone that is similar to anyone that is interested. There were a few items I ended up tossing that I for sure thought I would miss but it turns out a couple weeks down the road I didn’t even remember I once owned them!

What’s next: Well I would like to continue getting rid of things I haven’t decided on a project yet. I’ve bounced a few ideas off of Lisa (who has done this challenge with me) but have yet to come to a concrete plan. Perhaps, I’ll tackle one room every month, maybe I’ll do a clothing challenge… only time will tell.

For now though I’m really happy I stuck with this challenge, I feel a lot less attached to my belongings, especially after moving twice in a year, and I’m hoping that as our family grows our stuff won’t…at least not at the same rate.

Anyways, this was most definitely a fun project, I loved chucking things out and selling a few items on Kijiji for some extra cash!

What are you doing in 2014 to minimalism your life?

  1. I loved this challenge and SO glad you introduced me to it. I am going to continue to rid my life of clutter, but I also want to tackle rooms. So far I have already done both the girls’, laundry, linen, pantry and my bathroom. There is is still more to go but I may do updates on those progress’. I really wanted to do my garage last year and never got to it and man…easy 52 things in there that I could de-clutter.
