Okay, so we’re 8 months into 2013 and most students are back in school. Over the past 4-months I was able to work full-time at a large Oil and Gas company in Calgary! The first four months of 2013 were spent in school and you can see my spending habits HERE. I set out a “spending plan” at the beginning of 2013 though I may have deviated from it just a bit this summer!
Here’s what I wanted my pie chart to look like come December 31st, 2013:
And here is what we look like to date:
My categories are a little more accurate than they were after the first semester, however one thing to note is that these charts don’t take into account travel. I didn’t include travel for a couple reasons:
- I didn’t know how many trips I was taking in 2013
- When I’m on vacation I try not to worry to much about money
- I adoring travelling, it’s probably one of the best things I feel I can spend my money on so I don’t necessarily want to put a budget restriction on myself when it comes to that. This year alone already I’ve been to New York, Hawaii and Seattle and I feel very fortunate to have been able to go on all of these trips! I’ve even gone as far as to plan out some destinations for the next couple years!
As for what’s left in my budget, well take a peak…
The purple indicates what I’ve spent to date and the blue is what room I have left in my budget. The yellow, *sigh*, is where I’ve already overspent. I’m okay with the “over contribution” to my savings (is that even a thing) but I’m a little disappointed that I’m already over in the personal care and clothing category and the gifts category (Christmas isn’t even here!). Clearly, I didn’t budget enough for gifts so that’s something I’ll need to change in my 2014 budget. However, I think I’m going to be on a clothing ban for the rest of 2013.
How is your annual budget coming along? Is it time to start planning for 2014?
