It’s no secret, being a woman is expensive (check our LB’s post for more of her expenses). Hair products, makeup, clothing, the list goes on. Sometimes I envy that the boyfriend can just roll out of bed and be ready to go. I love being pampered and going to the spa but that adds up quickly. Sometimes getting ready to go out can be fun; trying new hairstyles from Pinterest and experimenting with makeup. But other times being a girl makes you feel like this:
So here are 6 ways to make being a girl a little bit less expensive:
Have one day a week with little or no makeup – Not only is this good for you face you will use a little bit less make up each week which will ensure your visits to Sephora or Mac are a little bit more spread out.
Don’t dye your hair - I haven’t dyed my hair for over a year and a half and I couldn’t be happier. It was hard at first watching my roots grow in but my hair is a lot healthier that it was before and I’ve saved hundreds if not thousands of dollars.
Host a spa party – what better way to get the girls together than by hosting a spa party. By bringing DIY facial masks and nail kits instead of going to the spa you can save a lot money. Plus why not open a bottle of wine… you can’t do that in the spa!
Wash in cold water – I wash all my clothing in cold water, unless there is a specific reason to wash it in hot (which I find are few and far between). This saves money on your water bill!
Have staple wardrobe items - If the contents of your closet are extremely versatile you won’t need as many items. Having a a few great items in your closet that go with everything will carry you through almost any situation.
Youtube tutorials - Don’t know how to do something, youtube it. I’ve found so many great tutorials on hair do’s, make up ideas, and even hair cuts. The amount of money you can save just by looking on the internet as opposed to paying a professional is just silly!
What secrets do you have to reduce the cost of being a lady?

I also have stopped highlighting my hair because the growing out phase is gross. And I wash all my clothes on cold.
However, I have stopped watching YouTube videos which actually has helped me save a lot of money. I would see all these cool hair styles or make-up looks then go out and buy the tools/products to recreate it at home. That is cheaper than having a salon do it but it’s still waste money for something I never used again because I quickly learned my hair does not curl, heavy make-up looks bad on me, and hot irons get very hot.
oh that’s a really good point! I don’t usually buy stuff for youtube tutorials it’s more like how to braid cause I’m terrible at it. But I could totally see how it could become expensive!
A really easy way to cut down on the “cost” of being a woman is to not get caught up in the societal expectations of beauty. I rarely wear makeup (and even then it’s probably coverup and mascara IF I feel it’s necessary), use drugstore brand shampoo/conditioner, and I buy inexpensive hair products. It takes a lot less to get ready in the morning (30 minutes from bed to leaving the house, including a shower).
Great point! I try to use “products” on my hair that are in my kitchen like coconut oil and such. I’m getting pretty quick at getting ready because I value my sleep lol
Thanks for linking to me lovely! I agree with all your tips. I wish I could get away with no dying my hair, and I did for 25 years, but I Had to start coloring it this year when I found my first (few) gray hairs. EEEEEK!
oh no! I hope I don’t find any grey hairs because I definitely don’t want to dye my hair for a few more years !
